Mary E. Schwartz, 101, of Fremont, passed away on Friday, November 25, 2016 at Elmwood Assisted Living in Fremont, Ohio. She was born the daughter of Herman C. and Edith H. (Haubert) Eilrich on September 13, 1915 in Fremont. Mary graduated from Ross High School in 1934, and on October 3, 1941, she married Richard A. Schwartz at St. Joseph Catholic Church and together they raised 7 children. Her family, her husband, and her church were most important to her, and she remained dedicated to each throughout her life. Mary E. Schwartz, 101, of Fremont, passed away on Friday, November 25, 2016 at Elmwood Assisted Living in Fremont, Ohio. She was born the daughter of Herman C. and Edith H. (Haubert) Eilrich on September 13, 1915 in Fremont. Mary graduated from Ross High School in 1934, and on October 3, 1941, she married Richard A. Schwartz at St. Joseph Catholic Church and together they raised 7 children. Her family, her husband, and her church were most important to her, and she remained dedicated to each throughout her life. As a homemaker she cared for and raised her children, while also running Schwartz's Grocery as Co-Owner with her husband from 1962 until 1977. Mary was also a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church and the Catholic Ladies of Columbia. In her free time, Mary enjoyed the arts, and could be found creating stained glass pieces and decoratively painting china. She was also a very good seamstress, and made much of the clothing for her family.

Surviving are her children, Diann (Paul) Tohle, of Walbridge, OH, Mary (Jerry) Smith, of Hermitage, PA, Richard (Sandy) Schwartz, of Dayton, OH, Kenneth (Vivian) Schwartz, of Fremont, OH, Therese (George) Newcomer, of Sidney, OH, Dennis (Amy) Schwartz, of Fremont, OH, Veronica (Chris) Johnson, of Oak Harbor, OH, 19 grandchildren, and 25 great-grandchildren.
She is preceded in death by her parents, husband, Richard, sons, Phillip and Jude, sister, Edna Eilrich, brothers, Richard "Dick" and Herman "Jack" Eilrich.

A memorial mass will take place Monday, December 5, 2016 at 10:30 AM at St. Joseph Catholic Church.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Stein Hospice or the School of Hope.
